DG Warriors Character Traits of a High Level Athlete

Character Trait 10GREAT PLAYERS KEEP "IT" UNDER CONTROL & CONTROL THE GAME!

CONTROL is a VERB to direct the actions or behavior of a person to do what you want.

CONTROL is a NOUN
If under control, things are happening in the way that you want them to.
If out of control, inability to stop the undesired behavior

“I am a superstar in my role.” Tristan Thompson after winning the 2016 NBA Championship

Basketball teams have from 10-15 players which means less than 10% are their team’s leading scorer. If you are one of the other more than 90%, what are you doing to help your team?

Know Your Role & be Humble

CONTROL your attitude and be humble by "working" your role. If you are a shooter, be a shooter. If you are a distributor, be a distributor. Your role may be to rebound, keep the opposing team’s best player UNDER CONTROL, or set the best screens on the team to get the scorer open.

Take Care of the Ball

If you constantly cost your team possessions with bad passes or bad shots, then you are NOT IN CONTROL. During the 2015-16 NCAA men’s basketball regular season, 17 out of the bottom 20 teams in TO% had losing records, 16 out of the top 20 teams in TO% had a winning record. Therefore, if you are looking to stay on the court, CONTROL THE BALL!

Produce in Games

Only you CONTROL your production in games and in LIFE. It doesn't matter your reputation, who your parents are, or what you think you're owed. If you don't produce don't be surprised if you don't play. If you are a shooter you must hit shots, a distributor must have a good assist to turnover ratio, a rebounder must rebound at a higher rate than your teammates.

Be Efficient & Control Your Reality

How many coaches have heard this line before, “coach I scored twenty-five points tonight." But, how many shots did it take to score twenty-five points?” If it takes thirteen three point attempts to hit four, ten layup opportunities to make four, and ten free throw attempts to make five, your reality of your production is OUT OF CONTROL. These types of players will kill a team's culture.

WARRIORS SPONSORED OHIO UNIVERSITY GIRLS CLUB TEAM MAKES NATIONALS!

Story from Ohio U. Basketball Club President, player & former Kenston star Catherine Rachek.

Hi Mr. Fruchter,

We won Regionals!! WOHOO! So, with that, we have qualified for Nationals at Ohio State! At regionals, we beat Dayton in the finals by 5 after losing to them in pool play the day before. There was an all tournament team at Regionals and myself and Solon native Kristen Low were two of the five all-tournament players. The weekend of April 22-24 we are heading to Ohio State for Nationals. There are 28 girls teams and 32 guys teams so it will be massive. They have a 3-point contest and a dunk contest which will be really cool. Teams are coming from all over the country: California, Colorado, Virginia, Georgia, and many other states. DG Warriors helped us so much get to Regionals and I want to again just say thank you so much!! Thank you again for DG's support!

Best,

Catherine Rachek

ALZHEIMER'S EXPERT WRITES ARTICLE ON LEARNING NEW SKILLS!

Jean MakeshWritten by Jean Makesh (right), father of two Warriors players. Jean is the Founder of THE LANTERN of MADISON and is building two new Alzheimers teaching & care facilities in Bainbridge & Saybrook.

SEVEN BUILDING BLOCKS AND MOTOR IMAGERY

To initiate and continue to learn, a child must have seven essential building blocks. The seven essential building blocks are gross motor skills, fine motor skills, visual skills, language skills, listening skills, reasoning skills and social-emotional skills.

In order for a child to learn the basic and advanced skills of basketball, it is extremely vital that all the seven building blocks are developed and strengthened throughout the course of training. If any of the seven essential building blocks are compromised, it would hinder learning of a new skill or may even obstruct the desire to repeat and practice. Strengthening the seven essential building blocks is a lifelong necessity.

(Editor Note: I have spent hours interviewing Jean and visiting his Madison facility to write his professional and personal life story. I highly recommend anyone with a family member or friend with dementia/Alzheimer's to connect with Jean. His teaching and care are cutting edge. -- Bob)
